Media Literacy 101 for teens
Information. It comes at us from everywhere, all the time. How do we know what to believe? What’s credible? What is “Fake News?" In this course, we go through all of this and more helping students to identify the purpose of every video, article, meme, and quote that they come across on a daily basis. We look at media bias: what is it and how to identify it? We learn to tell Fact from Fiction, Opinion from Truth, Hyperbole from Logic. This course is full of examples and discussions that are pulled from real life allowing students to walk away from the class with a foundational understanding of how to look at media with a discerning eye - a vital skill in this day and age of 24 hour media.
